Watching the sunset out the library window. watching the sunrise out the library window, watching hours of rain out of the library window, and looking down and still being only 2/3 done your paper.

NM, she's right. But since she's already delivered the reality check, I'll try to offer some encouragement. I remember being that boat when I was in college. I remember staying up all night studying for a 300 level French Culture and Civilization final; a class which was taught entirely in French and in which I struggled because my comprehension skills were a bit lacking. I was stressed out and bummed because I just knew I was going to do poorly and I felt like I was wasting time in a futile attempt to salvage the unsalvageable. I stuck with it though and somehow managed a good enough grade on the Final to get a C in the class. It was one of the few times I was happy to get a C, and it made every bit of angst worth it. One other thing I remember about college is how surreal the experience seemed to be at times. I always felt like I never had enough time to do all my work and I felt sleepy most of the time from late night studying and having to drive a piece of shit Chevette with 150,000 miles, 120 miles round trip 3-4 days a week up to Towson and back to Rockville. Sometimes I thought "This is bullshit. Can I really keep this up to the end?" I just kept at it. The day I took my very last final was a beautiful, warm breezy day. My last test was in Econometrics. I had inconsistent grades going into the final and needed a 95% to get an A in the class. I took the test and felt like I crushed it. I knew I'd done well. As was usually the case, I was the last student done with it, but as I walked out of the building for the last time in my college career, all that anxiety vanished like a fart in the wind. And apparently I crushed that Econometrics final. I never saw the test grade, but I got an A in the class. Don't despair, dude. It'll all work out. |

Some historians believe that Europe had a "long 19th century" which began with the upheaval of the French Revolution and did not end until World War
I and the Russian Revolution, which they believe represent a fundamental break in European modernity. While these events seem to mark a monumental shift in
European society, they were really just events in a long sequence of shifts rather than their own fundamental break. They are part of a longer transition
period in the history of Europe, beginning in 1789, continuing in Western Europe through decolonization and the integration of West Germany into NATO, and
lasting in the eastern part of the continent until the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Or so I lamely tried to argue. |

You see, I'll miss the about 4/5 of the time... Hell, I'll even miss some of the papers, like the one I wrote last semester about how nuclear weapons
act as a deterrent to total war, but actually encourage peripheral wars. Arguing about "breaks" in history for an entire night, though... ugh.
But, everything's got its bad sides. P.S. I'm done finals. I'm back to liking this place much more again

NM- let us know how it comes out. Keep at it man. It sometimes will feel like it's never going to end, but you look back and laugh.
AP- LOL, I remember that Chevette. Didn't realize it was shared. You were probably asking, "when is sis getting back w/ MY car?" and, "who's the dude she's with ?" |

Hahaha.
It's funny. Two days ago (when I had finals left) I wanted nothing more than to get out of here. Now that it's time to pack, when there's no real work in sight around here, I feel all bad about leaving. |

CDog is right. The more you know, the more you will be worth. Do it now when you don't have a family and so many more responsibilities. I'm lucky that GM pays for my classes and my wife has been very supportive. Excel now when you can. You may not think so, but it's a lot easier now while you are single. You don't want wait 16 years after graduating and find out you could have done so much more or done so much better. I know it's better than never, but it took alot of effort that I wouldn't have had to take had I done it the first time around. AP, gosh I can remember having a bad starter too. Just can't remember if it was the Pinto or the Bug. But yeah, I too, parked on hills. My tiny house was on a hill, and Good Counsel had a hill towards the rear from the student parking lot. So I lucked out there. I can remember your driveway AND street where all hills. Used to drive thru that state/county park as a short-cut to the house. Still hard to imagine it's been forever long, and that I can still remember. anyway..... |

I had a Toyota Celica once that I had to push-start. I saved up for a starter and after about a month I bought one. I spent about an hour changing the thing at
the curb hoping no one hit the car while I was under it. I got the thing installed, climbed into the driver's seat, turned the key and nothing. I checked
to make sure all the connections were tight including the battery, tried it again and nothing. A light went off in my head, I thought, clutch safety switch. I
pushed the clutch down three for four times really hard, tried it again and it fired right up. I pushed the stupid car for a month, bought a starter and
installed it all for nothing.

Reminds me.... Buddy of mine back in the 8th grade and I tried to go joy riding with the family's VW. Now this VW Bug was clutchless. It shifted, had a manual tranny, but no clutch. LOL, we hid behind the actual bug while mirroring her actual moves by scattering, (and crouching) behind the car, opposite her very moves. The only thing she did NOT do was, scratch her head. Now imagine a 5 ft nothing Cuban grandmother looking, inspecting a car, while two teenagers are crawling and crouching on the opposte side of the car. Those were the days....... |

Actually it was his grandma, but she treated me like one of her own. "Miguelito" as she would say. But no, LOL, we never did tell her.
Boy, the stuff we did. Illegal as heck. Underage drinking, driving w/out a license. |

When I was a kid, Kansas issued driver's licenses at 14. I had a '64 Galaxie 500 that my friends called the Bonzai Express. It's a wonder I
didn't get killed in that thing.

Interesting. The state I lived in offered 5 hp motorscooter licenses at 14. The nerds bought Vespas MoPeds and things that looked like this:
