Tonight, I spoke with the paint department's supervisor and he didn't have a problem with my request. I only had to ask, and we both bypassed a work order that would have taken months to get accomplished.
Happy Birthday to...

Prayer boxes in the workplace ! |

That's right, you read correctly, there will be three Prayer boxes at the only three main entrances to our plant. They will be for those (who) have a
prayer request, comment, or a concern for the Chaplaincy committee. I'm proud to say that this will be the plant's first.

Prayer requests? You should definitely post some of those.

I have read previous prayer requests ranging from " my family" who may have lost a family member to "our country", "our work
place", "our white house" and "our President".

Good for you for getting those boxes put in.

Last place I worked we had a Muslim guy who needed to get his prayer of the day in because we worked on second shift. I told him that he could
do it as one of his breaks or on his lunch.
I've worked with a good many deeply religious people of many faiths and none of them ever needed special designated prayer time from work. Goodness knows I've prayed on the job but I kept working as I did, I was of the opinion that he could switch his prayer times around to suit his schedule. To my knowledge there is no specified time to pray other than the mentioned five times a day and you can move your schedule around to accommodate that, least I think so. |

Religion in the workplace... Uplifting idea or Divisive distraction? | ||
|
I have a sort of a makeshift religious shrine above my desk at work put together out of various items I've collected over the years. It changes as time
goes by and items come and go. Right now, I'm displaying a string of Tibetan prayer flags and a copy of the book that came with it, Blessings On The
Wind, as well as a 10" tall porcelain bust of the Virgin Mary that was given to my wife when she was a child back in the late 60's. I'll try
and take some pictures with my phone and post them if they come out legibly enough.
I also have on more or less permanent display...a 3'x5' American flag; as well as icons of consumerism such as a 2 ft tall cardboard cut out of 'Buddy Lee' and another cut-out of the 'Alien' creature; a 'Fight Censorship' donation collection can sponsored by The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund; variuos comic art and music pictures, posters, calenders, and collectibles; numerous band stickers and political bumper stickers; and my semi-famous-ever-changing Wall-of-Zen which consists of dozens of my favorite pages torn from The Little Zen (page-a-day) Calender that's also on display at my desk. Needless to say, the management and most of my coworkers think I'm nuts, and who am I to disavow them of that notion?

That's awesome H3. Good to know that prayer is encouraged in your workplace. We could all use a bit of prayer now and then.

Last night I rec'd a call in my dept that the boxes were ready. Tonight I road around in a company plant buggy and planned w/ the maintenance supervisor
where the boxes should go. By the time we had decided where the first box would be installed in one of the entrances, the carpenter who would carry out the job
showed up. He and I then went to the two other entrances and we both agreed on where the last two would be installed. This whole project has worked out a lot
smoother than what I anticipated. It's just taken a little coordinating between several parties.

How so? It's not like praying actually works, right? |

Prayer has power to me. I am a Christian. I do think it works, although people of science would probably say it can't be proven. I have had many answered
prayers in my lifetime. Many times if you believe in something strongly enough, it becomes reality. It's called faith.

This reminds me of the "Why Won't God Heal Amputees" website.

I think God heals your soul so you can deal with being amputated. I mean if God made you legs so you can walk and you use those legs to build a car and then
crash it rendering your legs useless why is it up to God to give you new ones? But he can lift you up so that you realize there is more to life then legs.

So what would be the point of praying for somebody else, Alice?

Many times if you believe in something strongly enough, it becomes reality. It's called faith. There are interesting secular analogues too. Pretty rich philosophical territory actually. |

I mean if God made you legs so you can walk and you use those legs to build a car and then crash it rendering your legs useless why is it up to God to give you new ones? But he can lift you up so that you realize there is more to life then legs.Most of the people here, when using the word "God", are referring to the Christian deity, knowledge of whom is transmitted to us in the Bible. In the Bible it says something to the effect that "if you really believe in Me, any prayer will be answered." Any prayer. But here in the real world, even the things that are "possible" you only get about a 50-50 chance of the prayer working. Things that are "impossible" are never granted. If God is omnipotent then the only conceivable reason for going back on His promise in every case of a believer asking for the limb of an amputee to grow back in the last 1,800 years, is that He's a Mendacious Meany. You really should read the website Alice. |

I did read through some of it.
Theres a little saying written on cards given to people at airports and other places that says "God answers every prayer but sometimes the answer is no. " |

That's why it's best not to give God yes or no propositions.

sometimes the answer is no. Not sometimes; every time when it comes to amputees getting their limbs back. And He said, "ask and you shall receive". So Jesus is a
liar? Or Jesus isn't God and can't do it? What's the deal?
|
|||
Kalvan |
|||
That's why it's best not to give God yes or no propositions.Actually, I don't ask at all, and my fulfillment rate is probably the same as yours. He's supposed to have this big plan, isn't He? Isn't it a bit uppity for all y'all to be asking Him to change it just to accommodate your wishes? |
|||
Alice Pleasance |
|||
He's supposed to have this big plan, isn't He? Yes. And when man made problems cause you to loose your limbs it's not for him to fix. He can help you deal. My pastor told me I had short circuted Gods plan by getting pregnant without being married, and I don't particularly agree but I do think that even the crappy stuff that we don't think is fun can be part of the plan. |
