Roadcheck 2008 -- a cooperative program between the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and state and provincial transportation departments in the United States, Canada and Mexico -- is scheduled for June 3-5.
During this three-day roadside inspection blitz, about 10,000 trained and certified officers will conduct around-the-clock road checks using a 37-step procedure examining vehicles, drivers and cargo safety. CVSA officers also will hand out educational materials to drivers on topics related to the safe handling of commercial vehicles.
During Roadcheck 2007, 62,370 inspections were conducted. Of those vehicles inspected, 21.5 percent were placed out of service for mechanical problems. The Roadcheck 2007 results also indicated that the driver out-of-service rate increased for the second year in a row to 6.2 percent, the highest registered rate since 1999.
J.J. Keller & Associates -- a provider of products for risk and regulatory management -- says it has a number of solutions to keep drivers and vehicles in Department of Transportation compliance and on the road during Roadcheck 2008. Training programs, inspection charts, reports, guides and manuals, software programs, consulting and outsource services will help prepare both drivers and vehicles for the annual event, according to the company.

I forwarded this to a friend of mine, living in Florida, who is a retired Florida State trooper. He consulted with some of his friends who are State troopers. Several of them in, different areas, told him they haven't heard anything about this.. I guess we'll just have to 'wait-and-see', huh?

A young man who works in the oil field in the Texas Panhandle and that I personally know, got the following notice with his paycheck this last Friday, 05-09-08.. THIS IS NOT A RUMOR! I have held the actual notice in my own hands, seen the actual notice with my own eyes and have retyped it verbatim as follows:
'FROM JUNE 3, 2008, ABOUT 10,000 TRAINED AND CERTIFIED OFFICERS WILL BLANKET THE ROADWAYS OF NORTH AMERICA TO PREVENT TRUCK AND BUS ACCIDENTS AND SAVE LIVES. KNOWN AS ROAD CHECK 2008, FEDERAL, STATE, PROVINCIAL, AND LOCAL OFFICERS WILL BE CONDUCTING NORTH AMERICAN STANDARD INSPECTION AROUND THE CLOCK FOR 72 HOURS FROM JUNE 3-5. THE INSPECTIONS INVOLVE A COMPREHENSIVE 37-STEP PROCEDURE WHICH INCLUDES ITEMS RELATED TO VEHICLE, DRIVER, AND CARGO SAFETY..'
Isn't that interesting language they used? June 3-5 (Tue.., Wed,. Th..) look like good days to stay home.. --
