I was in Florence Oregon at my former MIL's cabin on Mercer Lake, and she had a telescope on the deck pointed directly at an Osprey nest. It was too cool! We have bald eagles here too, but more in the high country. They seem to be making a comeback - but the only one I have ever actually seen was up in your neck of the woods, Sargas, up near Cannon Beach.

Here, we have Golden Eagles - they are beautiful and there are a lot of them - and they are BIG. I went to go pay the bill for the trash service once, and I drove out of the back driveway to their office, and there was a Golden Eagle standing in the road, eating a rabbit. I stopped, we stared at each other for a minute, and then he took his rabbit and flew off. It was kinda funny to see an Eagle standing there in the street munching on a jackrabbit, though. We also have wild turkeys, which have more than earned the reputation that turkeys ARE stupid birds - the males will stand in front of your car, struttin around, gobbling, posturing, and doing everything but getting out of the way while the hens just waltz around, pecking in the dirt (lots of dirt roads here.) My friend has pictures of a turkey chasing her truck down the road, right outside the window - and that bird was HAULIN ASS to "Get" the truck. She didn't want to run him over, so she just kinda slowly outran him - but he never gave up. They are funny.

The little California Quail are really cute, too - they really do walk in a line with dad, mom, and the chicks in tow. They look like they are playing "Crack the Whip" or something.

But right now, my very favorite are the plain little blackbirds, because they are nesting, and attacking EVERYONE who dares to walk by their nesting area. The hospital has ivy growing on the side of it (Brick Building,) and the blackbirds have nests all through the ivy. They attack EVERYBODY. It's hilarious - some people get SO PISSED when a little bird "Strafes" them when they walk by... they get me all the time but it just makes me laugh. They have a nest just on the corner of a window to a patient room this year, so we have been watching the little chicks grow up - they still look like little dinosaurs with HUGE red mouths and no eyeballs yet. It's fun to watch.

I love birds.. nature... animals... but if my dogs don't stop barking at stuff that's not there tonite.... grrrrrr
