Today my baby got a gift box from the Netherlands!!!! Gunes sent Scarlett some wooden shoes and I got a Holland keychain. She got all sorts of lotions and
baby cleaning stuff. A beautiful card with the sweetest message, and a pretty red onsie, and giant bib, silverware and Go Fish cards with these funny little
dutch characters on them. She sent Nate and I some chocolate sprinkle things which I will admit Im a bit confused about, the box shows the sprinkles on a piece
of bread? You don't seriously eat chocolate with bread do you? She loves the squeeky giraffe and the notes explaining what things were was sweet as it
was a in a different language. Well anyway I just wanted to give public praise to Gunes for being so creative and nice. My baby is all cultured and stuff now.
We're trying to put together an American package for Jasper but Nate is really no help he wants to send you a six pack of Budweiser and some fireworks

Hurray! I am so happy that it made it to you al right!
Do you like the wooden shoes? My friend told me to get the traditional yellow (like the ones on the key chain) or the blank wooden shoes, but I thought the cow-spotted ones were really cute. Jasper has a squeaky toy like that as well, which he loves, only his is a cat instead of a giraffe. It looks more like a demon then a cat though, so we have lovingly named it 'Satan'. I was afraid that I might have to explain the sprinkles. We do, in fact, eat the stuff on bread. Lots of it. Copious amounts, even. I think that every Dutch household has a package of chocolate sprinkles in the cupboard. I have five (!): light chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate flakes, fruity sprinkles and anise sprinkles. The packages I sent you are small: just enough for 1 or 2 slices of bread, but it usually comes in big cartons. 500 grams (1.1 lbs) I think. *goes to check* Oh, 400 grams (0.9) lbs. When I was young, I could have bread with chocolate sprinkles (or chocolate paste) as long as I first ate a slice of bread with something healthy, like cheese. I still make myself do that. Oh, they are really good in yoghurt as well. The chocolate ones, that is: I'm not sure about the fruity kind. Try it, and if you like it, I could send you more: I don't mind being a chocolate-pusher at all. I refrained from putting black licorice in it, as I've been accused of poisoning by Americans that I gave it to. I loved putting the package together. As for the sixpack of Budweiser... I'll sent Jasper over when he's old enough... |

How cool!
Scarlett seems to enjoy her clogs and her toothbrush, but Nate eyes the chocolate sprinkles suspiciously... *chuckles* The text on the bib reads "Once upon a time...". I like the little dragons... |

I refrained from putting black licorice in it, as I've been accused of poisoning by Americans that I gave it to. :::::::: they're nuts..black licorice is badass ::::::::: and wtf about the bread ? is that regular white bread or sweet bread ? that word being 'tiet' (boob). ::::::::: ROFL @ the dutch word for boob funny how it's not that much different in english...but i think we take it to the next level and have dozens of words for it :::::::::: |

Nate is really giving those sprinkles a look, like WTF is this?
(he also appears to have something in his ear)
Do you not have licorice in America? All these little differences... you guys don't know what jumpers are, when I call someone a tool, you ask 'of whom?', and my girlfriend now refers to the TV remote as a 'clicker'.

and if you think about it - eating chocolate powder on bread isn;t that odd (at all - i;m packing my bags as we speak lol) we eat french toast which is sugar
and cinnomen on bread (essentially) it sounds delicious.... but with all that bread how does everyone stay slim?

Nate had a pollop taken out of his ear and they leak, the sprinkled bread tasted like a dry doughnut, not bad. Yes we have black licorice but we certainly
don't eat it. Do you all have peanutbutter? Maybe Ill send that, its much better on bread.

Trust me, Dutch (and Swedish) black licorice is nothing like that stuff Americans call 'licorice'...
Just normal white or wholewheat
There are lots of words for breasts as well in Dutch: tieten, borsten, prammen, memmen, bos hout voor de deur, meloenen, etc. We may have fewer words then Americans though, since we don't really have to speak in code when we are talking about tits. Velvetland: red licorice is not licorice. Licorice is black. Brown is allowed, but barely. However, whether it is licorice or not, I am sure that those red laces are good.
We don't, not really. However, most children I know are told to 'first eat healthy, then eat sweet'. Plus, many have to cycle to school, sometimes quite a long ways. 6 miles is not uncommon. I had to cycle 10 miles. |

We do, and you're right: it does taste good. Not sure about better, though, but good.
I like jelly, and I like peanut butter, but together it's horrific. So is the combination peanut butter and chocolate. I had Reese's Pieces ten years ago, and I still shudder when I think back to that experience. We don't have (and I like): - Macaroni and Cheese - Cornbread - Hot Tamales - Root beer - pop tarts - life savers - Hugs & Kisses (the Hershey kind, I mean) |
