Laws aren't killing thousands every year in America, Rob, unless you count the laws in some cities that refuse to allow people to protect themselves with a
gun which is the best, most effective means of self-defense.
It's the criminals and the inner-city gangs in America who are doing the majority of the killing and most of that happens in the places where gun control has made it difficult for honest people to own guns. Indeed it's a fact that places in America with the most restrictive gun laws have a much higher incidence of gun crime than those with the least gun control. In fact, some 40 or so states have reformed their laws so that ordinary citizens can get a license to carry concealed pistols. In nearly every state, possibly every single state, that has recognized the right of citizens to carry a concealed gun the crime rate has fallen.
Make no mistake, those who are inclined to commit mayhem will never give up their guns. Even in your country gun crime has increased during some years since the ban. That's not because some law-abiding citizens have hidden their grandfather's war trophy Luger in the attic. It's because your criminal element didn't turn theirs in, only honest people did.
Even if I were convinced that giving up our guns would cause our crime rate to fall to the level of that in England, which I'm not, I wouldn't give up my guns. Criminals come in all shapes and sizes and some of them wear suits and sit in government. It would be un-American of me to trust the government to have my freedom, liberty or best interest at heart. I won't do it.
