Re: abortion my father was a respected physician. My brother in law's family is in the medical profession. Many of us are knowledgeable about the pre-Roe vs Wade Ob /gyn climate. We studied in medical school. Zealots may claim whatever you want about pre 1970s abortion history & practices as well as the deaths of women but you don't have a leg to stand in not having medical educations or case experiences.

Women did obtain abortions. With the help of accommodating gynecologists wealthy & uppermiddleclass women ended pregnancies safely and timely. Occasionally they went abroad or to another part of the country to give birth. Abortion was an available option for a price. The middle classes, very young and poor didn't have the same options. All emergency room physicians (whether in big cities or small towns) frequently treated the back alley victims as well as those who tried various D.I.Y. remedies. Many women died or were permanently harmed from botched abortions.


Facts and truth of the past matters nothing to idealogues. You'll deny substantiated medical texts if I posted them. You imagine the Sky God is deeply concerned about the fecundity of women in an overpopulated world. You imagine you are investing yourselves in the great moral issue. IMO nothing is wrong with the Roe v Wade decision. If abortions are abhorrent to you and yours by all means do what you can to influence your own family and friends to think as you do. Others have strong feelings that women have the intelligence and self-determination to do what they feel they must about their own reproductive lives. IMO, it's their own business. Most American are content to live in a pluralistic society despite certain factions who want a civil war.

Morticia was probably a kid when the SCOTUS decision made abortion legal. I was in high school. Maybe you don't respect the way the Founders set up the Supreme Court to make decisions which concern laws which impact the rights of citizens but some of us do. I think a far worse Scotus decision was the radical eminent domain ruling from 2 years ago. It takes away rights, not enlarges rights.
Americans live in a diverse society and the majority in frequent polls aren't crazy about abortion but they consistently declare they believe the decision was sound and want abortions to be available.

What is it with rightwingers? I can only imagine women having autonomy over their own lives is part of a societal change which bothers some men. If fetuses are fully human beings who will never reincarnate and whose terminations are an abomination to God, why don't you leave it to God to decide? He has not sent anybody any bulletins on the matter.
